Dear Olympic friends,

Welcome to the sixth edition of the ANOC newsletter dedicated to over-the-top (OTT) platforms and the important role they can play for National Olympic Committees (NOCs).

With technological advances making streaming solutions more readily available, OTT platforms are becoming increasingly prominent as sports organisations recognise their value in connecting directly with audiences.

ANOC last year launched its own OTT platform, ANOC.tv, which is ready to serve NOCs in supporting them to create their own OTT platforms.

With the Olympic Games Paris 2024 fast approaching, NOCs creating their own OTT platforms will allow them to build awareness and generate excitement ahead of the Games.

This newsletter provides more detail on how NOCs can take advantage of ANOC.tv and the benefits OTT platforms can bring.

We hope you enjoy reading it!

ANOC.TV CELEBRATES 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY WITH ANNOUNCEMENT OF VIDEO PROJECT AT PARIS 2024

ANOC.tv will be expanding the video content it provides NOCs with a dedicated Games-time studio during the Olympic Games Paris 2024. The announcement comes as ANOC celebrates the one year anniversary since ANOC.tv was launched.

Located, outside the Olympic Village, the ANOC.tv studio will help NOCs to capture content of their athletes, pre and post competitions. Whether it is behind-the-scenes insights into athletes’ preparations or reactions to performances, the studio will allow NOCs to develop bespoke content they can share directly with their fans across their digital platforms.

The creation of the Games-time studio forms part of ANOC’s Digital Accelerator Programme, and is designed to support NOCs enhance their digital offerings. Video content is increasingly central to effective communications strategies and allows NOCs to connect with their audiences and share experiences in a way no other medium can.

ANOC launched ANOC.tv last year in partnership with SportAll, and after just seven months online captured the attention of viewers in over 74 countries across 76 live sessions. As well as streaming all ANOC content, including the ANOC General Assembly, ANOC Awards, ANOC webinars, seminars and Special Theme Sessions, ANOC.tv also offers greater visibility to dynamic beach sports in partnership with International Federations.

The addition of video capture at Paris 2024 is the latest way ANOC aims to leverage the ANOC.tv platform to directly benefit NOCs. NOCs can also benefit through the NOC hub which allows them to develop their own OTT platform.

1 - HOW IS CANAL OLIMPICO DO BRASIL INSERTED IN THE BUSINESS STRATEGY OF COB?

Canal Olímpico do Brasil [Brazil Olympic Channel] is now our main hub of connection with the fans alongside our social media accounts. Both mediums allow the Brazil Olympic Committee (COB) to provide content which will engage Olympic sports fans every day. Whether it is competition results or behind the scenes insights, it offers fans a closer connection to everything  around the Brazilian athletes.

We also recognise at COB that social media and the Brazil Olympic Channel are the best way to deliver visibility to our 20 private sponsors. For instance, we have commercial spots for our sports across the more than 140 events we will be broadcasting throughout 2024. In addition, we are also monetizing on YouTube as part of our new strategy on the platform over the last year.

2 -  COB HAS A VERY COMPREHENSIVE AND SUCCESSFUL SPONSORSHIP PORTFOLIO. IS THE OTT PLATFORM A PART OF THE MARKETING PROPERTIES SOLD TO YOUR SPONSORS?

COB changed our strategy at the end of 2022, by deciding that we wanted our YouTube channel (@timebrasil) to be seen as a broadcasting platform as well. Now, we mirror all content on both YouTube and our OTT channel. We see this as a complementary strategy as there are fans who consume content through the OTT and others who consume it through YouTube.

Being on YouTube, as big as it is, is important as it allows us to show the public what COB has been implementing. In addition, every sponsor has a right to insert a number of advertisings in COB’s streaming events, and so far they are satisfied with the results.

3 -  IN YOUR VISION, WHAT IS NEXT FOR CANAL OLIMPICO DO BRASIL?

The Brazil Olympic Channel is now celebrating its fourth year since launch and in 2024 will broadcast its highest number of events in a single season:141 already scheduled. It has a wide portfolio, going from national events, with our Youth Games a highlight, to worldwide renowned competitions such as Diamond League, gymnastics and judo World Tour and World Championships. We have also broadcast an vast array of special reports, documentaries and talk shows.

I believe the challenge is to keep improving the content and the quality of live broadcasts, while keeping the budget low and under strict control. But, I would like to say that we are glad about the results achieved in the four-year span since its conception. And so are our sponsors. And, first and foremost, our fans.
