NAVIGATING THE DIGITAL WAVE : ANOC LIGHTS THE PATH FOR NOCS INTO THE FUTURE

In a world where our lives seamlessly blend both online and offline experiences, the impact of the digital revolution is unmistakable. Nowhere is this more evident than in the realm of sports, where digital platforms have reshaped how we consume and engage with our favourite events, creating an entirely new way to feel the excitement of sports.

Recognizing the evolving landscape, sports organizations worldwide are continuously adapting, working collaboratively to introduce fresh engagement platforms that connect with their audiences. ANOC President Robin Mitchell emphasizes, "ANOC is committed to embracing new ideas, concepts, and frameworks, promoting creativity across various areas and projects."

ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg echoes this sentiment, stating, "We understand the importance of social media and digital platforms in today's sports community, and it is our mission to facilitate cooperation and knowledge exchange among NOCs."

To assist National Olympic Committees (NOCs) in navigating this digital transition, ANOC introduced the ANOC Digital Accelerator Program (DAP) in October 2020. Currently, 622 representatives from 181 NOCs have registered to participate in the program, which encompasses various pillars focusing on knowledge exchange and sharing best practices. These pillars include:

  • NOC Social Media Audit
  • NOC Social Media Dashboard
  • NOC Media Workshops
  • NOC Social Media Webinars
  • NOC Social Media Games Report
  • NOC Social Media Account Verification
  • ANOC Social Media Handbook
  • Social Media Attaché Program for the ANOC World Beach Games
  • NOC TV hub inside ANOC.tv
  • Games Photo Project

ANOC's commitment to sharing insights is evident through the availability of ANOC Social Media Handbooks on the organization's website. These resources provide a wealth of information, allowing NOCs and sports organizations to learn from the best practices of their counterparts. Additionally, video recordings of Social Media Webinars are accessible on ANOC.tv, providing a valuable repository of knowledge.

In this ever-evolving digital landscape, ANOC remains dedicated to empowering NOCs, fostering collaboration, and ensuring that everyone can ride the digital wave with confidence.

1 - WHAT IS THE MAIN DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION SPORTS CONSUMPTION IS UNDERGOING TODAY?

Over the past decade, digital transformation has revolutionized the sports market. Traditional television remains a primary medium for viewers, but the rise of digital platforms, OTT services, and streaming has seen exponential growth. Moreover, the emergence of real-time data and statistical databases is becoming increasingly significant.

Content preferences are evolving too; fans are not just interested in the action on the field but also in the stories and behind-the-scenes insights. This shift is evidenced by the increased broadcasting hours of the Olympics; for instance, NBC aired 171 hours in Atlanta 1996 compared to 7,000 hours in Tokyo. This change is propelled not only by audience demand but also by advancements in technology.

2 - STREAMING AND VIDEO PLATFORMS ARE RESHAPING THE WAY WE WATCH SPORTS. IN YOUR OPINION, HOW CAN NOCS BETTER BENEFIT FROM THIS?

As I previously mentioned, there's a growing demand for content beyond just live sports action. National Olympic Committees (NOCs) have a unique opportunity to engage in this sphere, particularly in producing behind-the-scenes content and athlete stories. With their direct access to athletes, coaches, and support staff, creating such content is relatively straightforward. This is an opportune moment for NOCs to develop new concepts and strategies for their social and digital media presence, collaborate effectively with media partners, and explore ways to monetize their content.

3 - HOW DO YOU FORESEE DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS AND FAN ENGAGEMENT, LET’S SAY, IN BRISBANE 2032?

As we can all observe, Artificial Intelligence is likely to be a major game-changer in the coming years. We are diligently exploring the potential of AI, including its positive impacts and potential challenges. We stand at the dawn of a new era, witnessing changes almost daily. While it's challenging to predict the exact technological landscape in nine years, I am confident that the journey towards Brisbane 2032 will be an exhilarating one.

NOC PHOTO PROGRAMME GANGWON 2024: BUILDING ON SUCCESS, ANOC AND THE IOC UNITE TO SERVE NATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEES

Bulding on the success of the ANOC Photo Project Beijing 2022, ANOC and the IOC join forces to bring to NOCs an even wider and easier access to pictures of athletes, venues and events of the Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024. Together, our organisations have developed a bigger and better proposal for NOCs: the NOC Photo Programme Gangwon 2024.

Four ANOC photographers will provide 52 NOCs with top-notch, professional images free to use for non-commercial purposes. These photographers will embark on a visual journey throughout the Youth Olympic Winter Games Gangwon 2024, focusing not only on the athletic prowess on display but also on the cultural richness of the YOG. Their work will support NOCs in designing the visual narrative of their YOG participation.

In addition, the NOC Photo Programme Gangwon 2024 will offer access to stunning sets of pictures to all NOCs by making them available on the IOC Olympic Information Services (OIS) platform.

The NOC Photo Programme Gangwon 2024 is about to turn moments into memories. We can't wait to see the stories that unfold when the Olympic Movement gathers together once more in January. Stay tuned for the magic behind the lens!
