Dear Olympic friends,

Just a few days before the ANOC General Assembly, we are excited by the opportunity to once again gather the world’s National Olympic Committees (NOCs) together for this important meeting.

The ANOC General Assembly is unique. It is the only non-sporting event that truly brings the whole Olympic Movement together. Leaders from more than 200 NOCs will be joined by representatives of the IOC, International Federations (IFs), and the Organising Committees of the Olympic Games (OCOGs) in a clear display of the strength and unity of our Olympic Family.

Of course, our focus is the NOCs and ensuring that we are facilitating discussions on the most pressing issues and interests of our national stakeholders. However, as one of the key Olympic stakeholders, NOCs do not operate in isolation, and so it is important that we will have all Olympic stakeholders represented in Cascais, particularly at this significant time for the Olympic Movement.

As ever, the ANOC General Assembly is an opportunity for collaboration. Whether it is through sharing of knowledge and best practice in the Assembly itself, or through networking and exchange on the sidelines of the event, having everyone together in person creates countless opportunities for building meaningful connections.

We will also have the ANOC Awards which will allow us to celebrate the best NOCs and athletes of the spectacular Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Our Special Theme Sessions on the third day of the General Assembly will provide further opportunity for NOCs to develop collectively through knowledge exchange and the dissemination of best practice.

We look forward to welcoming you all to Cascais for what we have no doubt will be a highly productive and constructive meeting. We are grateful to our partners at the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP) and City of Cascais for their excellent preparations and ensuring we have everything we need during our stay.

Dear friends,

We will shortly be welcoming the Olympic Family to Portugal! This important moment will bring together delegates from National Olympic Committees, International Federations, partners, athletes and many others, all with an active voice to contribute to the debate and decision-making about the destiny and future of the Olympic Movement.

We wish that all delegates enjoy a fruitful trip and make rewarding contacts during their time in Cascais. We will also celebrate the best athletes of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 at the ANOC Awards, where excellence will be celebrated as we pay tribute to the heart of the Olympic Movement.

In the final days, we are finetuning the details to ensure that all delegates are welcomed to Portugal with the warm hospitality they are accustomed to in our country. Cascais and Estoril are unique places, with a natural beauty that enchants everyone.

The hotels were selected with the utmost care for your comfort and safety, and the meeting venues feature cutting-edge technology for the work that awaits us.

Sustainability remains at the forefront of our work and the sea that is so characteristic of Portugal, and which is reflected in the look and feel of this event, reminds us of the need to set an example in the protection of natural resources.

This year’s ANOC Awards will celebrate the outstanding achievements of National Olympic Committees (NOCs), their athletes, and distinguished members of the Olympic Family during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to Portugal!

Artur Lopes

President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee
